Toussaint L'Ouverture (the center)
François-Dominique Toussaint L'Ouverture, also known as Toussaint Louverture Toussaint or Bréda (Port-Margot, May 20, 1743 – Fort-de-Joux, April 8, 1803), was a revolutionary Haitian African American. Former slave, led the revolt of the slaves in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He was captured by the Bonapartist and died a prisoner. A short time later, in 1804, Haiti became independent and was the first black state in modern history.
