The banknote has a cut between the S of Munster
Notgeld German for money "emergency" or "necessity" and is used to indicate numismatic emissions that match these characteristics.
The first major issue of Notgeld began at the outbreak of the First World War. Due to inflation caused the costs of war, the value of the materials with which the coins were produced became greater than the nominal one. Many institutions began to hoard the coins. In addition, the metal used for the minting became necessary for the production of war supplies. This caused an extreme shortage of monetary metal, which was remedied by emitting small bills.
