Paul Keres (rus. Пауль Петрович Керес, Pau'l Petrovič Keres; Narva, January 7, 1916 – Helsinki, June 5, 1975) was a chess Soviet Estonia birth.
Grandmaster, author of books on the subject and universally regarded as one of the strongest among those who have not won the title of world champion, if not the strongest. Was coined for him the title of "Eternal Second", that after his death will be the prerogative of Viktor Korchnoi.
From 1937 to 1941 he studied mathematics at the University of Tartu. He died at 59 years for a heart attack while he was returning to Helsinki in Estonia back from Vancouver in Canada, where he had just won the local tournament. Wikipedia
