2019 – Rembrandt BF new stamps 450th death of the painter
Background:
In 1606, Rembrandt van Rijn was born in Leiden, Holland, a prolific and innovative painter, engraver and draftsman. Lived in an era of enormous wealth and extraordinary progress, the so-called Golden Age, Rembrandt distinguished himself for the wide range of subjects he depicted, which includes portraits, self-portraits, landscapes, allegorical and historical scenes, biblical and mythological themes, as well as animal studies.
This year marks the 350th anniversary of his death and the mini-sheet that the Vatican Philatelic Office dedicates to the occasion, made to a design by the artist Marina Richterová, portrays him in his authoritative composure in the act of exercising his refined art, as it was his engraving.
