Michelangelo Buonarroti (Caprese, March 6, 1475 – Rome, February 18, 1564) was a sculptor, painter, architect and poet Italian. Protagonist of the Italian Renaissance, was already recognized in his time as one of the greatest artists of all time.
It was overall an artist as ingenious as it restless. His name is linked to a number of works that have it delivered to the history of art, some of which are known throughout the world and are considered among the most important works of Western art: the David, the Pieta or cycle frescoes in the Sistine Chapel are considered insurmountable goals of the creative.
The study of his works marked successive generations, giving life, with other models, in a school that made art "in the manner" his and that goes by the name of mannerism.
