Ivan Mažuranić (Novi Vinodolski, August 11, 1814 – Zagreb, August 4, 1890) was a Croatian poet.
He took part in the literary movement Illyrian, becoming a reference point for his strong personality. After 1848 he worked politically for pro-Austrian movements, alienating many friends in his homeland. He spent the last years of his life disappointed and lonely.
Thanks to his knowledge of languages Dalmatian managed to complete the Osman Ivan Gundulić. His best work was the epic poem The Death of Smail-Aga Cengijic, true literary masterpiece Serbian-Croatian, inspired by the struggle between the Turks and Christians. He translated several works from other languages, including the Five May Alessandro Manzoni.
