DESCRIPTION _
1987 – Portugal 100 Escudos Silver Commemorative Gil Eanes Portuguese Navigator
He was the first European in the modern era to overcome Bojador in 1434 at his fifteenth attempt after 10 years, dissipating the legend, terror, and superstition associated with this promontory in Europe. It was assumed that marine monsters prevented the passage and destroyed the ships. With Bojador's dubbing, Gil Eanes was the unconscious creator of the early "great discoveries" era.
