Very Rare banknote to be found in Splendid state.

Background notes:

On 25 July 1866 the production of the 5 Lire banknote was entrusted to the prestigious company Thomas de la Ruedi London, but also due to the urgency of the customers

the execution of this banknote was not very accurate and the note was massively falsified. Production was thus suspended.

A remedy for the disastrous emergency of small-denomination banknotes came in early 1867, when in New York the banknotes produced by the American Note Company which, due to the excellent workmanship and the quality of the paper, were difficult to forge.

The Institute continued its activity until, in 1893, it was absorbed by the nascent Bank of Italy.
